Do you know what your unhealthy habits or patterns are? I'm talking about what you do that derails you when working towards happiness or shifting your life. Things like: ➡️Isolation ➡️People pleasing ➡️Skipping workouts ➡️Impulsive spending ➡️Binge eating, excessive drinking, and promiscuity ➡️Changing who you are in the presence of others to fit in. ➡️You are always making an effort in relationships without reciprocation. ➡️Returning to or making excuses for remaining in unhealthy relationships (intimate/friendships/relationships at work, etc.) ➡️Negative self-talk or destructive behavior We ALL have unhealthy habits or patterns that we consciously or unconsciously perform, and it is easy to fall into them. But how do we break those patterns and continue working towards being our best version? Ultimately, being mindful of your habits is critical in breaking the cycle. Check-in with yourself regularly. What's going on in your life? Are you feeling happy and motivated, or are you feeling anxious, depressed, and unmotivated? If it's the latter, then have a plan or actions that you may take to make sure you aren't falling into unhealthy habits. Be aware of what triggers you to begin derailing yourself. Many feel undeserving of happiness or success, so self-sabotage takes place. You start feeling as if where you are is too good to be true, so before something takes that happiness from you, you will take it from yourself - proving that you were right; it was too good to be true. Knowing this about yourself allows you to break the cycle. Work on exploring healthy behaviors rather than unhealthy ones. Are you feeling anxious or sad? Acknowledge it, try sitting with it, and call a close, supportive friend if you can't work through it. For myself, I used to be terrible about impulsive spending. If I wasn't feeling good, my instinct was to purchase items that made me feel good at the time, whether they fit my budget. Thankfully, I've acknowledged this unhealthy habit or coping mechanism and know when it's taking place. I still allow myself to go to stores, but I place items in my cart and ask myself if it's something I genuinely need or an impulse buy. More often than not, I leave the store without whatever it is. And I leave feeling good about myself rather than having guilt and buyer's remorse. Or, if you are someone who tends to binge eat, then remove yourself from surroundings that allow you to do so. Go on a walk, call a friend, and busy your mind with other things, as an idle mind is the devil's playground. Most importantly, remember that you are human. It's normal to experience daily struggles, but how you handle them decides your progress in life. You are always in control of your happiness, success, and choices.
