A nice early exercise option for #GlutealTendinopathy . This is a nice way to gently work the glutes in a position where there is minimal compression or irritation of the tendon. In irritable cases and those with significant weakness I tend to start with isometrics and ask people just to lift some of the weight of the leg off the pillows. We can then progress by lifting the whole leg and then gradually increasing the hold time. . As symptoms improve we can move on to a more dynamic exercise, keeping the pillows in place if it remains painful to lower into adduction. This can be further progressed by increasing range or adding load (e.g. from a resistance band). . Where possible I would integrate weight-bearing exercises with this as we know the glutes tend to provide a stabilising role. This might start as shallow range squats or supported balance work depending on the patient’s needs and symptoms. It can progress to include single leg squats, bridge variations, step ups, lunges, standing hip abduction and more. . While the exercise in the image is a nice option it’s not for everyone!
