𝐃𝐞 𝐐𝐮𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐚𝐢𝐧’𝐬 𝐓𝐞𝐧𝐨𝐬𝐲𝐧𝐨𝐯𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐬 —— 📚De Quervain’s Tenosynovitis describes a condition in which the muscles and tendons that attach to the thumb (abductor pollicus longus and extensor pollicus brevis) become irritated. 🔎 This issue typically produces pain on the thumb side of the wrist and develops when the wrist and thumb are used excessively such as with activities like gaming, texting, gardening, and racquet sports. This video from @dr.jeremygirmann demonstrates how these tendons work during texting and how this movement could contribute toward the development of this problem. 🧠In most cases, this issue will resolve with rest from aggravating activities (temporary use of a splint might help), the application of ice to the region and the implementation of a rehab program that targets the wrist and hand. In some cases, anti-inflammatory medication and a cortisone injection may be necessary to help reduce inflammation. ✅In tomorrow’s post, I will show how to test for this issue and provide rehab exercises!
